Thinking of putting your team on ChatGPT Business? Before you hand over the company card, it helps to know what ChatGPT Business really costs in Australia: the price per user in Australian dollars, the two-seat minimum, how GST works with your ABN, and whether two ChatGPT Plus accounts would be cheaper. Here’s the lot, plus how it stacks up against Claude Team, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Short answer: ChatGPT Business costs A$28 per user a month on a yearly plan, or A$35 per user a month billed monthly, with a minimum of 2 users. So the cheapest Business workspace is A$56 a month (A$672 a year). For one person, ChatGPT Plus at A$30 a month is cheaper. For two people paying monthly, two Plus accounts (A$60) also beat Business (A$70). Business earns its keep once you want shared admin, central billing and no training on your business data by default.

On price alone, Business only wins on the yearly plan, and only by a little. The real reasons to pick it are the business features below. If you’re a sole trader working alone, Plus is the sensible choice. You can still turn off model training in Plus’s settings.
What you get with ChatGPT Business
According to OpenAI’s pricing page, Business includes:
- No training on your business data by default. On Plus, training is on unless you opt out.
- Central billing and admin: one bill, and an owner who adds and removes people.
- Sign-in security: SAML single sign-on and multi-factor authentication.
- Connections to Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub, Microsoft 365 and more.
- A shared space to work with your team, plus usage analytics and spend controls.
- All of ChatGPT’s features, including ChatGPT Work and Codex, on desktop, web and mobile.
The page also mentions up to A$770 a month in API credits for the workspace, but eligibility and activation conditions apply, so don’t count on it until you’ve read OpenAI’s terms.
GST and your ABN
OpenAI’s pricing page shows A$28 and A$35 but doesn’t say whether that includes GST. What happens depends on your business:
- Registered for GST: the ATO says to give an overseas supplier your ABN and tell them you’re registered, and they shouldn’t charge you GST. In ChatGPT Business, the workspace owner adds a tax ID under Workspace settings → Billing → Settings. OpenAI says the change only applies to future invoices, so do it before your first bill.
- Not registered for GST (for example, a small sole trader): you pay the GST.
Check the billing company and tax number on your invoice too. If the supplier uses the ATO’s simplified GST registration, the invoice shows an ARN instead of an ABN and can’t be a tax invoice.

Billing catches to know before you sign up
- Card only. Self-serve Business takes credit and debit cards. There’s no invoice billing, bank transfer or purchase order. If your business needs invoices, OpenAI points you to its Enterprise sales team.
- You pay for every seat, used or not. At the start of each billing cycle you’re charged for all seats in the workspace, whether or not anyone is assigned to them.
- Removing someone doesn’t cut the bill. It frees their seat for someone else. To pay for fewer seats, you schedule a reduction, and it only starts at your next billing cycle.
- On a yearly plan, added seats are locked in. Seats you add mid-year are charged straight away (pro rata) and stay committed until the year ends.
- Overseas billing. Even when you’re charged in Australian dollars, some banks add an international transaction fee of 3% to 3.5% when the company is overseas. How to pay without bank fees lists the cards that don’t.
ChatGPT Business vs Claude Team, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 Copilot

All prices checked from an Australian connection on 31 October 2026, on each company’s own pricing page. Google was running a 50% off deal for the first 3 months, not included above. Microsoft also sells a Copilot Business add-on for existing Microsoft 365 Business customers at A$31.40 a user per month, plus GST, paid yearly (A$26.91 for the first year on its offer running until 31 December 2026). That’s on top of what you already pay for Microsoft 365.
Google Workspace looks cheapest, but it isn’t a like-for-like swap: you get Gemini rather than ChatGPT, bundled with email and storage. If your business already pays for Workspace or Microsoft 365, check what AI your current plan includes before adding ChatGPT Business on top. For individual plans compared, see

Is ChatGPT Business worth it?
- Solo, or sole trader: no. ChatGPT Plus costs A$30 a month against A$56 for the two-seat minimum.
- Two or three people: maybe. Business is only slightly cheaper than Plus accounts on a yearly plan, so choose it for central billing and data controls, not the price.
- Five or more, or you handle client data: yes, if your team uses ChatGPT daily. No training by default, single sign-on and one bill are worth having once staff paste client work into AI.
- Already on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365: check the AI you already have first.
